Kia Optima GT – sporty model for Frankfurt debut?

It appears that the new Kia Optima will be next to gain a GT variant – photos of what appears to be a sportier model have appeared on Kia’s official global Facebook page.

The fourth-generation D-segment sedan is seen here with a GT badge – rather than a GT Line one, indicating that this is a proper performance-oriented variant – although it comes without the aggressive aesthetic addenda that’s found on the cee’d and pro_cee’d GT.

Instead, what you’ll find is the “sporty” front fascia and red brake callipers as found on the SX Turbo variant in the United States, without the LED fog lights as seen on the “modern” face option in South Korea. The five-spoke turbine wheels appear to be unique to the GT, however.

No technical details have been released just yet, but we’re placing our bets on the top-shelf 2.0 litre T-GDI turbocharged and direct-injected petrol four-pot that’s already available in other markets, sending 247 hp and 352 Nm to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.

As the new Kia Optima has yet to make its market debut in Europe, we’re expecting the continent to be next to receive it at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September, with the GT being the top-spec variant.
