Porsche Panamera Turbo lands in Malaysia – RM1.55m

The second-generation Porsche Panamera Turbo has officially arrived in Malaysia, packing 550 hp and 770 Nm of torque from its 4.0 litre biturbo petrol V8 under its hood. Though all Panameras are now turbocharged, this is the Turbo with a capital ‘T’ – peak power is produced from 5,750 rpm to 6,000 rpm, while peak torque is made from 1,960 rpm to 4,500 rpm.

The output figures are 30 hp and 70 Nm higher than in the previous Panamera Turbo, which together with the optional Sport Chrono package, yields acceleration times of 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 12.7 seconds (0.2 second and 0.3 second slower respectively without Sport Chrono). The V8 biturbo also features cylinder deactivation, which can switch off four out of its eight cylinders between 950 rpm and 3,500 rpm, up to a torque limit of 250 Nm. Fully uncorked, the Panamera Turbo does 306 km/h.

Its prodigious outputs are channeled to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, while its roadholding abilities are anchored by adaptive air suspension with three chamber technology, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and active roll stabilisation. Optional rear-axle steering here aids both agility and low speeds, and stability and high speeds.

Inside, the Turbo features the latest in Panamera interior design, with the traditional analogue tachometer flanked by a pair of digital displays for vehicular information. In the centre of the dashboard console sits a 12.3-inch touchscreen display, with Apple CarPlay for smartphone integration and support for voice command input. Outside, the Turbo is most distiguishable by its elaborate, split-and-extendible rear spoiler.

As befitting a range-topper bearing the Porsche crest, the Panamera Turbo has done its time on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, clocking a time of seven minutes and 38 seconds, making it among the quickest four-door cars on the fabled course. The accolade of outright quickest four-door at the Green Hell goes to the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, with a time of 7 minutes 32 seconds.

The Panamera Turbo joins the base Panamera (from RM890k) and the Panamera 4S (RM1.1 million) already launched for the Malaysian market, and now marks the top of the Panamera tree with a base price of RM1.55 million which includes applicable duties, but without registration, road tax and insurance.

This includes a four-year warranty and four-year free maintenance package comprising of complimentary service, parts and labour. We’ve driven the Panamera 4S in Taiwan; read on here for our impressions of the 2.9 litre biturbo V6 petrol variant.

  • So RM1.55million without tax and the tambah in the usual Porsche’s infamous ‘option list of financial doom’ and this is is set to wipe a sizeable chunks of money that should have been paid in taxes. Wonder will Porsche will launch the Sports Turismo in the bolehland? Very interested in that particular model, need to work very hard so I can buy that one in the future…. in 1:24 scale.

Now that Klang valley public transport is almost completely transformed, its time this type of luxury automobile to be taxed more, even selling at 2 mil not a big issue

For majority of Malaysians, the total price of houses and cars that they have bought during their whole life is lesser than the price of this car. That’s why for many Malaysians they think driving a Civic or a Camry is a luxury. In developed countries even an E class is only considered as Executive sedan, and not luxury sedan.

Meanwhile at the local front rebadging has sold millions of cars. And very soon cheap Geely cars will be stripped to bare minimum and sold at astronomical prices.

  • What’s the fuel consumption of this car? Any eco mode? I travel 100 km a day. If it is not fuel efficient I better drop it off my shortlist.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 3
    • If you simply can afford Rm1.55M cars without worrying your budget, i don’t think you need to worry about fuel consumption at all. Unless its “hard-earned cash”
