Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV launched in Malaysia – 1.5T petrol hybrid, 90 km EV range, 1,200 km combined; RM130k

One of two Chery models launched in Malaysia today is the Tiggo 7 PHEV plug-in hybrid, which is launched alongside the Tiggo 8 PHEV, following the opening of the order books for both near the end of last month.

The Tiggo 7 PHEV arrives on the Malaysian market priced from RM129,800, locally assembled (CKD) from the outset, from Kulim, Kedah. This plug-in hybrid variant will go on sale alongside the petrol-powered Tiggo 7 Pro which continues to be on sale at a RM14,000 rebate from its original launch price of RM123,800.

The internal combustion engine is a 1.5 litre turbocharged TGDi four-cylinder engine that outputs 143 PS and 215 Nm, pairing with a 204 PS/310 Nm electric motor and a single-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). The ICE essentially operates as a range extender, and combined, powertrain outputs are 279 PS and 365 Nm, sent to the front wheels.

For comparison, the Tiggo 7 Pro gets a 1.6 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that outputs 197 hp and 290 Nm, driving the front wheels through a seven-speed wet-dual-clutch automatic transmission.

In the Tiggo 7 PHEV, this yields a fully electric range of up to 90 km, and can attain a maximum hybrid range of 1,200 km, this claimed figure being the same for both the Tiggo 7 PHEV and the Tiggo 8 PHEV. Fuel tank capacity for the Tiggo 7 PHEV is 60 litres.

Rolling stock is a set of 18-inch alloy wheels, shod in tyres measuring 255/60R18, and these are supplemented by a tyre repair kit.

Audio output is by an eight-speaker Sony premium audio system, while an intelligent voice assistant is also included.

For device connectivity, there are USB-C and USB-A ports the front row, while the rear seat occupants get USB-A ports. The front row gets a 50-watt wireless device charger and a 12-volt power outlet, while another 12-volt power outlet is located in the luggage compartment.

Upholstery is by synthetic leather, with heating and ventilation for the front seats in the Tiggo 7 PHEV; the driver’s seat is six-way power-adjustable, and the front passenger seat is four-way power-adjustable. Further conveniences include remote engine start, a cooled front centre console storage box, double-glazed acoustic glass, and rear passenger air-conditioning vents.

For safety and driving assistance systems, the Tiggo 7 PHEV gets lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, lane change assist, lane keeping assist, emergency lane keeping assist, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert and braking, front and rear collision warning, adaptive cruise control, integrated cruise control, and AEB.

In Malaysia, the Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV is offered in Phantom Grey, Khaki White and as seen here, Blood Stone Red with a contrasting black roof; this is a RM2,000 cost option.

Warranty coverage is seven years or up to 150,000 km for the vehicle, with an eight-year, 160,000 km warranty on the drive battery, electric motor and hybrid powertrain control unit. Also offered is a five-year service package (free labour) for six service intervals.

In 5 years…u throw a small pebble on the road,it will hit a Chinese (including coypaste Protong)car for every 10 cars.
At the rate these Chinese imports flood our market, mighty Toyota and Honda might to reduce prices aggressively,in order to survive the onslaught.Dont mention Tan Chong’s Nissan..it would have been obliterated.Even Dato’ Ben’s Mazda is shivering.
