Mitsubishi Xpander – over 50k units sold in Malaysia

Over 50,000 units of the Mitsubishi Xpander have found Malaysian homes since its 2020 launch, solidifying its position as Malaysia’s No 1 non-national MPV for five years straight, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has announced.

“Thank you to all our customers for placing your trust in us. This achievement not only reflects our dedication to delivering vehicles that meet the needs of Malaysian families but also marks a proud moment as over 50,000 customers have chosen the Xpander. We remain fully committed to supporting your journey, today and for many years to come,” said MMM CEO Takashi Sakamaki.

The car on sale now is the first facelift (which we got in 2024; see the 2026 facelift here). There are two locally-assembled (CKD) variants – the regular RM99,980 Xpander and the RM109,980 Xpander Plus. Both get a 105 PS/141 Nm 1.5 litre 4A91 DOHC MIVEC four-cylinder engine and a four-speed auto. Learn more in our launch report and/or watch our review below.

That’s more than the Honda BR-V cumulative registrations (46,859)

Onwards to 80k units to surpass Innova and Grand Livina?

The Mitsubishi Destinator could come with 1.5Turbo and 1.5H-EV.

    https://searssabrina.netlify.app/2025/07/23/2025-mitsubishi-destinator-launched-in-indonesia/ from RM 105k 1.5Turbo, competing with Jetour Vt9 /Jetour X70 Plus.
Which both Jetour share the same warranty: a 7-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty, a 10-year or 1,000,000 km engine warranty, and five free services (labor and parts)

If gives 1.5EV then it compete directly against Rush MK3 and BRV MK3 later.
    It will be exciting too.

every product has it lifecycle. MMM relying on xpander itself for volume sales is a bad strategy…. once it reaches it end of its lifecycle, MMM will be out of the arena.

You can say that for a fledging brand, but for a dying one, grab all you can before you go out seems right.

  • so why are we posting this again? To tell us that Malaysian people are brain dead spending 100k on a car that has 2 airbags and no other safety features in 2025?
