MG5 X Edition launched in Malaysia – 300 units only; body kit, scuff plates, dashcams; priced from RM96k

In addition to the MG4 EV 101 Edition, MG Motor Malaysia also introduced the new MG5 X Edition. Limited to just 300 units, the X Edition is priced at RM96,388 before on-the-road costs and insurance. That makes it RM2,488 more than the regular (and sole) Lux variant that has been around since the MG5 went on sale here last year as a fully-imported (CBU) model from Thailand. For context, the Lux’s on-the-road price without insurance is RM94,470.

The premium paid nets you an accessories package that includes a body kit finished in gloss black, with added components being a front splitter, side skirts, rear skirting and a boot lid spoiler. Also included are ‘X Edition’ scuff plates as well as front and rear dashcams (a 64 GB SD card is included), all of which are covered by a one-year warranty.

Unlike the 101 Edition, there are no colour limitations for the X Edition, which can be ordered with a Nuclear Yellow, Dynamic Red or Camden Grey exterior.

Aside from the accessories package, the rest of the X Edition is identical to the Lux, with a 1.5 litre naturally-aspirated inline-four petrol engine delivering 114 PS (113 hp or 84 KW) and 150 Nm to the front wheels through a CVT with eight virtual speeds.

The kit list includes automatic LED headlamps with DRLs, 17-inch wheels, leather seat upholstery, a powered driver’s seat, single-zone climate control with rear vents, a 360-degree camera, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, six speakers as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.

On the safety side, the MG5 comes with six airbags, ESP, ABS, electronic differential system (XDS), hill start assist, lane change assist, blind spot detection, rear collision warning, rear cross traffic alert, stability control and traction control. No autonomous emergency braking or adaptive cruise control here.

  • This would be a good choice in its segment, if the S70 doesn’t exist.

    Well that’s disappointing.
