Mitsubishi Elevance Concept shown – six-seater, quad-motor plug-in hybrid SUV with glamping trailer

Mitsubishi has unveiled at Japan Mobility Show 2025 the Elevance Concept, a quad-motor plug-in hybrid SUV study with a six-seat cabin configuration.

The Elevance Concept is specified with a high-efficiency petrol engine that is compatible with carbon-neutral fuels, according to Mitsubishi, and this is paired with a large-capacity traction battery, although the manufacturer has not disclosed exact numbers.

Its quad-motor setup that is part of its PHEV powertrain is comprised of in-wheel motors for the front axle, while a dual-motor setup incorporating Active Yaw Control (AYC) features at the rear axle; the ability to control traction at each individual enhances its off-road capability, says Mitsubishi.

As depicted here, the Elevance Concept is capable of trailer towing, with this matching trailer outfitted with kitchen and shower equipment powered by the SUV’s electricity supply for a “refined glamping-style excursion”.

Accommodation in the Elevance Concept features front seats which can swivel around, for the front occupants to face passengers in the second and third rows. The concept vehicle includes an artificial intelligence co-driver, which interacts with the driver via an LCD display embedded within the steering wheel.

This offers personalised suggestions to the driver based on individual preferences and lifestyles, says Mitsubishi, and AI technology is also employed to analyse the vehicle’s status and surroundings in real time, using its findings to recommend the optimal drive modes for the given conditions.

Its dashboard features a full-width display comprised of screens that offer a view of front blind spots “and other areas around the vehicle that are not normally visible”, says Mitsubishi. Meanwhile, its interior trim is moulded into a seamless shell from the dashboard to the floor. Here, the doors are shown to use C-shaped glass for even metter visibility to the sides of the vehicle.

Certain elements of the Elevance Concept are flights of fancy, though the overall look as applied to its front and rear ends may inform the design direction of future models from Mitusbishi. What do you think, readers – could this look be found on a future Pajero?

LOL. If you had given me one ringgit for every Japanese concept that never saw production, I would have enough money by now to commission a company to actually build them.
