The GWM Tank 500 has received a new Black Edition variant in Malaysia, a few months after a similar Black Warrior trim was introduced in Thailand. As the name suggests, the flagship seven-seater 4×4 receives a smattering of black trim to replace the usual chrome bits for a murdered-out look.
Costing an extra RM8,000 (RM336,800 on-the-road without insurance), the Black Edition coats the inky hue on the massive grille, Tank emblem, C-shaped front bumper trim, window surrounds, roof rails, powered side steps, door handles, taillight surrounds, rear bumper protector and skid plate, and tailgate and spare wheel cover garnishes. You also get smoked LED headlights and black 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels.
As yet, there is no mention of the available colours, although we assume the Black Edition will only be offered in Sun Black, as is the case for the Black Warrior in Thailand. Nothing about any changes to the interior either, so the black Nappa leather-trimmed interior, faux wood trim and analogue clock should remain as is.
The rest of the standard kit should be identical as well, including keyless entry, push-button start, triple-zone auto air-con, power-adjustable front seats (eight-way for driver, six-way for passenger) with memory, first- and second-row ventilation, power-folding and unfolding third-row seats, a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Qi wireless charger, a 12-speaker Infinity sound system, park assist and a 360-degree camera.
The Tank 500 also comes with a full complement of driver assists as standard, such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centring assist, curve speed reduction, a “wisdom dodge” system that moves over for large vehicles and motorcycles, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert with auto brake and a door opening warning. Six airbags and stability control, too.
Power continues to come from a hybrid powertrain, led by a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine pushing out 244 PS from 5,500 to 6,000 rpm and 380 Nm of torque from 1,700 to 4,000 rpm. This is mated to a 106 PS/268 Nm electric motor and a nine-speed automatic transmission for a total output of 346 PS and 648 Nm, routed through all four wheels through a switchable four-wheel-drive system. No word on the diesel version launched in Thailand this year – we assume our unsubsidised diesel fuel has put paid to that.
As per the standard Tank 500, the Black Edition comes with a six-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, a (non-transferable) lifetime engine, transmission and hybrid system warranty, an eight-year/200,000 km battery warranty and five years of free service. Early-bird buyers will receive a “limited edition premium gift set” as a token of appreciation.

better spend another 200k to buy RR evoque the read deal, wise choice accept no substitute.
Why settle for smaller Evoque if your motto is accept no substitute? You should spend extra RM2.1 million more and get the same size Range Rover Autobiography. Or spend RM800k more for the Defender.
for same price 300k can buy mazda cx80 hybrid which is less powerful and less offroad capable but at least it will soon come with a nicer new 2d badge logo
lol @ price, what??!
We don’t have enough off road rough road wide road for the peninsular..
But the Borneo Geeks would be happy to get this Tank Grade 500 H-EV as a champ against G Class that almost lost to the Tank 300 for being New King of Mods now.
I’ve seen a few Tank 500 around the
Kuching, Sibu and Miri cities in Sarawak. This thing look imposing in real life, especially in white colour.
it’s like chinel trying to sell the price of a chanel.
except its actually really cheap compared to lancruiser (500k) or defender (1 million) or g-wagen
Chanel is considered lower luxury status in China because even mid income can afford them.
