KLIA aerotrain to undergo nightly inspections from 12am to 5am, shuttle buses to run at full capacity

The aerotrain service at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 will undergo inspection and rectification works nightly from 12am to 5am, Bernama has reported.

During those hours, shuttle buses will serve at full capacity to ensure uninterrupted passenger transfers between terminals, the airport said. “These measures are part of our ongoing commitment to maintain safe, efficient and comfortable airport connectivity,” it was quoted as saying.

This follows a spate of aerotrain breakdowns since its service resumed in July this year, following its suspension in March 2023 as a precautionary measure following a major breakdown.

In August, the transport ministry directed Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) to continuously monitor and maintain the aerotrain following disruptions which occurred shortly after its relaunch on July 1.

The relaunched aerotrain service employs Alstom Innovia APM 300R train sets. Each train set is a three-car unit, which can accommodate up to 270 passengers at once and travel at up to 56 km/h. This train system had undergone six months of rigorous testing and commissioning by the land public transport agency (APAD) from January to June this year, MAHB managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said at the relaunch.

  • The trains are all new. They already did trial test run without passenger for months, and why is it that there’s still issue? MACC should intervene and investigate this issue. It’s not like the technology is new. Either the vendors are cutting corners, the owner of the trains are cutting corners, or there’s some shitty underground / undertable going on. Don’t spoil malaysia airport’s reputation lah….

Continuing failure of aerotrain, I think will persists until somebody from MAHB start to stand-up and answer directly to media and explain. Not thru a minister or behind another government body. Lack of accountability is the root cause. So Datuk Mohd Izani we know as MD , you have lots on hand. Please name person within MAHB responsible who are engaged in this issue directly. He/she can be our hero in addressing this issue ya.. or is it inside job of disgruntled employee that create this.. please let us know directly. Not hiding behind government arms
