CAM EV Microvan – target launch in Malaysia 2Q 2026, based on Nextem Vaquita, single seater, est RM65,000

It was clearly very happy to see us! This is the CAM EV Microvan, a pint-sized one-seat zero-emissions commercial vehicle we chanced upon at last week’s CETA & MobilityX Asia 2025. It’s targeted to launch in Malaysia in the second quarter of 2026 and be priced at around RM65,000.

What it appears to be is a Nextem Vaquita. A what? Nextem is a Hong Kong-based green mobility company that specialises in commercial EVs, and the Vaquita (Google the word to see something even cuter than this van) is among its smallest products. We doubt those smiley face decals are standard, but look, the charging flap is where the open mouth is! Makes sense…

Being of cab-chassis construction, various bodystyles are possible including a rear-loading rubbish lorry, a high-pressure washing vehicle, a wash and sweeper truck, a coffee truck and a closed barrel truck, although it seems CAM Malaysia will primarily offer this as a ‘high box’ van. It’s rear-wheel drive, but don’t get any funny ideas – there’s quite a profound difference between going sideways and tipping sideways.

This 3,500 mm long, 1,240 mm wide (so narrow it needs just one windscreen wiper) and 1,700 mm tall thing, with a 2,350 mm wheelbase, can hold 2.14 cubic metres of barang (1.8 x 1.1 x 1.08 metres) with a 255 kg payload. The rear motor can be either 13.6 or 20.4 PS; regardless, torque is 105 Nm and top speed is 80 km/h. The 15.97-kWh LFP battery can be AC-charged at up to 3.3 kW, yielding a 150 km range. Kerb weight is 800 kg including the 250 kg battery.

You can get in through the left door or the right – it doesn’t matter, because there’s only one centrally-mounted seat (who needs a McLaren F1). There’s keyed ignition, manual windows, a foot-operated parking brake, air-con (guess how many zones), a headlamp height adjuster, twin USB-A ports, a rotary gear selector (R-N-D-E; we presume E stands for Eco or Efficiency) and not much else. Airbags? Err…

Do you see your next Shopee haul coming to you in one of these? Or do you think you’re more likely to see one at your local pasar malam? Other EV vans in Malaysia include BYD T3, CAM EA4, EC35 and Jenhoo EV48, Foton iBlue, Higer Ace E1, Maxus eDeliver 3 and eDeliver 7.

seems too narrow and wont be stable. whats the reason to make it so narrow ? its not as if our roads and parking spaces cant accomodate a wider vehicle.

This is the CAM EV Microvan, a pint-sized one-seat zero-emissions??
    Really?
You mean to say that right from the design stage, raw materials, supply chains and manufacturing process has no emissions?

yes captain obvious its understood that manufacturing does have emissions. the term “zero emissions” means no emissions from tailpipe while the vehicle runs.

Zero emision means zero emmision lah… does not matter whether its at the tail pipe or not!!.. Does the ad say Zero emission at the tail pipe?… No it doesnt!!

Whats the point of Zero emission at the end of the supply chain when all along from the raw material to the sales office there is emmision, waste and pollution!!
