Honda Heritage Works showcases restored Honda NSX NA1 at TAS 2026 – new business launches April 1

In December last year, Honda announced plans to launch Honda Heritage Works, a new business that serves to provide customers with services meant to keep their beloved (and iconic) vehicles running for many years, kind of like Toyota’s GR Heritage Parts and Nissan’s Nismo Heritage Parts programmes.

Set to officially launch on April 1, 2026, Honda Heritage Works will consist of two services. The first is known as Honda Heritage Parts, which reproduces and supplies certain discontinued genuine parts that are no longer in mass production.

These parts are divided into two categories, with ‘Genuine Honda Heritage Compatible Parts’ being those that are newly redeveloped and reproduced to replace original parts no longer sold by Honda. On the other hand, ‘Genuine Honda Heritage Reproduction Parts’ are parts reproduced using the same materials and production methods that were used for the original parts.

As for the second service offered, Honda Restoration Service provides an avenue for customers to have their cars restored by Honda using reproduced parts. This will be offered in Japan, with all jobs performed at a Honda facility in Takanezawa, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan.

The location is significant to Honda as it is the birthplace of the first-generation NSX, which is the first car to be officially supported by Honda Heritage Works. To be more specific, Honda will work on NA1 NSX cars made between 1990 and 1993 with VIN numbers ranging from NA1-1000001 to 1009999.

It sounds new, but Honda has been offering restoration services for its renowned sports car under the name of ‘NSX Refresh Plan’ since 1993. With its new business, the Refresh Center will be renamed to Honda Heritage Works Takanezawa.

Depending on how deep your wallet is, Honda offers basic restoration packages as well as a total restoration. The former starts from 11.55 million yen (about RM296k) and includes things such as removing the engine to replace parts, replacing suspension-related parts as well as replacing deteriorated parts like door trims, mouldings, weather strips.

Basic restoration packages can also be customised to include options such as stripping the car down to its body in white and repainting, which will cost circa 6.6 million yen (RM169k). Customers can also ask for the interior to be reupholstered and refreshed (replace carpets and mats) for another 3.74 million yen (RM96k).

A total restoration is a price on application affair and includes everything that the basic restoration packages cover, with the addition of a transmission overhaul. Whichever one you go for, Honda will present a certificate of work and technical inspection certificate that verify the authenticity of the work done. Going the total restoration route will see the addition of a certificate of authenticity as proof it meets Honda’s standards, which should help with the value of your car.

Ahead of the launch of Honda Heritage Works, the Japanese carmaker has showcased its new business at the recently-concluded Tokyo Auto Salon. The red NA1 NSX pictured was previously in silver and underwent a total restoration to become what you see. If you’re one of the lucky few to own a NA1 NSX and have the means to fly your car over for some TLC, applications are already open at the Honda Heritage Works website.
