According to a report by China’s IT Home, BYD aims to increase overseas vehicle sales by 25% in 2026 to 1.3 million units. Last year, the Chinese automaker reportedly sold a total of 4.6 million unit, with around 1.04 million being in overseas markets – this figure represented a 150.7% increase from 2024.
Other takeaways from the prior report include electric vehicle (EV) sales amounting to 2.26 million units, which is 27.9% more than in 2024 and could see BYD overtake Tesla for the first time in annual EV sales.
Continued market expansion has contributed significantly to BYD’s overseas sales, including increase presence in Europe as well as accelerating market entry and sales in Latin America and Southeast Asia.
The report notes that BYD has reached over 110 countries and regions by the end of 2025, with localised production outside China further helping to further strengthen the company’s presence. Plants in Thailand, Uzbekistan and Brazil have already been completed and begun operation, with BYD’s first European factory based in Hungary set to start production soon.
