Terminal Bersepadu Selatan bus tickets purchased online now with QR code to aid check-in process

Tickets purchased online for express buses rides from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) are now embedded with QR codes to aid the check-in process prior to boarding at the terminal, reported The Star.

Aimed at cutting down congestion at the bus terminal during peak travelling times, the inclusion of QR codes in tickets is effective this month, and is aimed at enhancing passenger flow during the upcoming Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, where an estimated 30,000 to 40,000 passengers daily are expected to use TBS for around 1,000 bus trips during this period, said transport minister Anthony Loke.

“Among the most common grouses we previously received was that passengers who bought tickets online will still have to convert them into QR codes at physical counters here. Now, the land public transport agency (APAD) has made it mandatory for online express bus ticketing agents to integrate QR codes into their ticketing to lend a more comfortable experience,” Loke said.

For passengers who have purchased tickets earlier which did not have QR codes, the new ones with QR codes can be obtained through the TBS website for RM1, the minister added. “They only have to key in their ticketing details on the site, where a code will then be produced. At the same time, we will still have physical counters available for any QR generation purposes for those who are not aware of the changes,” he said.

One reason for congestion at TBS was due to QR code generation, which has made many passengers unhappy, and the move to generating QR codes online is aimed at resolving the issue, the transport minister said.
