Having made its debut in 2019 and then followed by several updates, the Polestar 2 will enter its second generation next year, the EV brand has revealed.

This will come after the debut of a new variant of the Polestar 4 later this year, and these are part of the brand’s wider push to release four new and updated models in three years, according to the company.

The brand considers the Polestar 2 its foundation with 190,000 units sold, and states that the car that Polestar “became known for” will be key to the company’s success, said Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller. From the teaser image, the second-generation Polestar 2 can be seen to wear the brand’s latest headlamp signature, as seen on the aforementioned Polestar 4 and subsequently the halo Polestar 5.

In its latest guise, the current-generation Polestar 2 starts with a 70 kWh battery from CATL that offers up to 554 km (WLTP) in the Standard Range single-motor variant, which is propelled by a 272 PS rear-axle motor.

Long Range variants of the current Polestar 2 get the larger 82 kWh battery for a 299 PS single motor configuration that yields 658 km of range (WLTP), and 595 km on the 421 PS dual-motor AWD, and 566 km on the 476 PS Performance Pack variant.

In addition to the next-generation Polestar 2 and upcoming Polestar 4 estate-SUV variant, the brand will be unveiling the Polestar 7 in 2028; this will be the brand’s compact SUV offering that will be produced in Europe. Meanwhile, European market deliveries for the Polestar 5 are set to begin this year.
