2026 Proton X90 MC brochure leaked – 181 PS/290 Nm 1.5L turbo i-GT 4-cyl from X50, X70, S70; three variants

More details emerge regarding the upcoming Proton X90 MC update, with its brochure leaked on Facebook. This reveals that the updated three-row SUV will be brought to market in three variants, named Lite, Prime and Prime X.

This will be its first minor change since its launch in May 2023, and the biggest change concerns its powertrain, which will be the i-GT 1.5TD engine which also powers the updated X50, X70 and S70, that outputs 181 PS at 5,500 rpm and 290 Nm from 2,000 rpm to 3,500 rpm, paired to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

Images of the X90 MC on the leaked brochure confirm that there are essentially no changes to the exterior of the three-row SUV, and wheels are 18 inches in diameter for the X90, from the base Lite variant onwards.

Based on the brochure, it appears that the second-row seating will remain as a bench rather than being upgraded to individual seats like the Geely Haoyue / Geely Okavango offered in other markets. If this is indeed the case, it feels like a missed opportunity for Proton to further differentiate the Proton X90. Introducing individual second-row seats could have enhanced comfort and positioned the X90 as a more compelling indirect successor to the Ford S‑Max. It’s a change that could have made the model stand out more strongly in its segment.

It would also be great to see the introduction of an AWD system, which could further strengthen the X90’s appeal and versatility, especially for buyers looking for added capability and confidence in varying driving conditions.

bench seat make more sense to malaysian, ramai bontot besar compared to other country. if only 2 person sitting at the middle seat, we can have armrest at both arms rather than 1 arm only.

If you read the brochure, it literally says that the Prime X has captain seats. Maybe save the money and go study English instead.

I’m aware that the Prime X comes with captain seats, but that configuration makes it a 6-seater rather than a 7-seater. Perhaps you might want to revisit the comment more carefully before responding.

Yes, but sometimes people prefer Japanese quality over Chinese cars. Maybe in the future, when their cars improve in quality, people will consider them.

You can’t grow shit with Proton. Ironic as that statement is, since shit is very good fertilizer. Almost a decade with Geely and still struggling to be #1 AT HOME. No wonder Geely took back the foreign RHD markets.

At this point Geely is a bigger name than Proton globally, why would they need a Proton badge to sell cars overseas anymore? The fact that Geely doesn’t even allow Proton to localize their designs for the local market anymore is telling.

    • Bro, i think have read enough. End of last year Proton has launch new platform callaed Ama. This is designed byproton.Ama02 is the new saga mc model which capture very significant local market. And current Proton together with Geelly will export this model to SEA country such as Philippines and Brunei. Few more AMA platform including AMA06 will expected on new Proton MPV whch target is price is around rm80k

Still no driver memory seat? What a missed opportunity, this is essential for a family vehicle where drivers frequently switch.

YES!.. volume is important to keep cost low. Proton’s main challenge is lack of volume to develop new engines or models. Proton need foreign developed engine to reduce cost and sharing across model does help lower the cost. moreover, chinese model or cars are changing and upgrading in rapid cycles meaning in short period it will change. if proton localised and can’t get enough volume to push out it will end up with outdated design and missed updates associated with chinese models. that’s the case with X90. i don’t think proton have very high volume to use up localised parts stock before next iteration of updates. so i am not surprised if they had to resort to shared engines with other model to keep up with changes
