2026 Proton X50 Black Edition – Quartz Black, limited to 200 units, Flagship trim, RM7,000 Raya rebate

Less than a year after launching the facelifted X50, Proton has released the first special edition of its refreshed B-segment SUV, called simply the Proton X50 Black Edition. As the name suggests, the car is made available in the inky hue that’s not part of the standard colour palette.

The national carmaker tends to reserve black for certain models and limited-run specials, and the latter is the case here – only 200 units of the X50 Black Edition are being offered. They are all finished in metallic Quartz Black, which does a good job of disguising the size of the facelift’s massive front grille.

As far as we can tell, that’s about the only change on the Black Edition. You don’t get black wheels (not such a bad thing in my book), black exterior trim (still chrome and silver, with a red “Ethereal Bow” grille strip and red brake callipers) or full black seats (they still come with red accents).

The Black Edition is based on the range-topping Flagship, continuing to feature a panoramic sunroof and a Batmobile-style rear spoiler in addition to LED exterior lighting and 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels. This variant also comes with a black roof, but obviously with this car the whole thing reads as one colour.

Other bits of standard kit include keyless entry with proximity locking and unlocking, push-button start, single-zone auto air con, half-transparent sun visors, a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, faux leather upholstery, an 8.88-inch instrument display, a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Qi wireless charger, six speakers, a 360-degree camera, a powered tailgate, an RFID tag and security window tint.

Safety-wise, the Black Edition retains six airbags, stability control and a full complement of driver assists. These include autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centring assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, a door opening warning, traffic sign recognition and auto high beam. The Flagship trim adds park assist to the mix.

Under the bonnet remains the facelift’s new 1.5 litre i-GT turbo four-cylinder engine, producing 181 PS and 290 Nm of torque. All that is sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, getting it from zero to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds.

Pricing remains the same as the regular Flagship at RM113,300, sans the RM4,000 launch rebate. However, Proton is currently offering the X50 with a Raya discount of RM7,000, effectively bringing the price down to RM106,300. There’s also RM800 in overtrade value available for trade-ins.

Originality is what makes a car maker great. Copycats don’t earn as much respect.
2 common features of Malaysian made vehicles:
Firstly, Big loud ugly “logo” stamped on the back of your car. Be it “Tiger” logo or Red and White colour logo ,..
Secondly, weird name… Perodua , Proton…. cannot understand why such name…

The names are acronyms. Proton is Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional. Perodua is Perusahaan Otomobil keDua.

A simple Google search would have told you that.

This honestly feels like a batch that was originally intended for a government fleet order but somehow got cancelled and ended up being sold to the public instead.

That said, the colour actually looks really nice with the red accents on the exterior and interior. Proton maybe should consider offering black as a colour option for the X50. With a chrome delete, it would probably look a lot much better.
