Overview
The Mazda CX-8 is a D-segment, three-row SUV for families who want six or seven seats in a petrol or diesel Mazda. The 2022-generation range starts from RM165,360 and runs from a 192 hp 2.5-litre front-wheel-drive seven-seater to a 228 hp turbo petrol six-seater.
CX-8 in 2026 — what's new
The Mazda CX-8 carries into 2026 unchanged, with no 2026-specific update announced. The current line-up retains five automatic variants: the 2.5 Mid 2WD, 2.5 High 2WD, 2.5 High Plus 2WD, 2.2D High Plus 2WD and 2.5 Turbo High Plus AWD. Mazda reduced CX-8 pricing by up to RM20,000 in 2025. The newer CX-80 is positioned as the CX-8’s eventual replacement, but the CX-8 remains on sale.

Which variant to buy
Most buyers should start with the RM165,360 2.5 Mid 2WD. It has the same 192 hp 2.5-litre petrol engine, automatic gearbox and front-wheel-drive layout as the RM171,360 2.5 High 2WD, while retaining seven seats rather than six. Choose the High if six seats suit your family better. The RM186,360 High Plus is another six-seater; check its equipment list before paying more. The RM213,123 diesel and RM221,360 turbo petrol are for buyers specifically wanting their respective powertrains.

Verdict
The CX-8 remains a sensible Mazda route to a three-row SUV, with a choice of six- and seven-seat layouts and petrol or diesel power. It is not a cheap entry into the class: the starting price is above the Proton X90, Jetour VT9 and Leapmotor C10, and close to the Chery Tiggo 9 and Omoda Jaecoo C9. But it costs far less than the newer CX-80, which sits in a substantially higher price bracket.
