Pump price vs market benchmarks
Market lines are benchmark proxies, converted to RM per litre at the day's USD/MYR rate and averaged over each price week: NYMEX RBOB gasoline (US) tracks petrol, front-month Singapore Gasoil (Platts-settled) futures track diesel, and Brent crude is shown for context. They exclude duty, transport, retail margins and any subsidy — the gap to the pump price is that wedge. RBOB is a US gasoline benchmark, used here since the free Singapore Mogas 95 feed was discontinued in June 2026, so it follows RON95/97 only loosely.

How fuel pricing works in Malaysia
Retail fuel prices in Malaysia are set weekly under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM). The Ministry of Finance announces new prices every Wednesday and they take effect from Thursday to the following Wednesday, tracking the Means of Platts Singapore (MOPS) refined product cost.
On 30 September 2025 the RON95 pump price was floated. Malaysian citizens pay a subsidised RM1.99 per litre under BUDI95 (BUDI MADANI), verified by MyKad at the pump and capped at 200 litres a month. Public land transport and freight vehicles pay RM2.05 per litre under the Subsidised Petrol Control System (SKPS). Everyone else — including foreigners and non-eligible companies — pays the unsubsidised market price, which moves weekly.
Diesel in Peninsular Malaysia has floated since the June 2024 subsidy rationalisation. From 1 July 2026, the separate East Malaysia diesel price was retired in favour of a nationwide subsidised diesel: eligible Malaysian diesel-vehicle owners pay RM2.10 per litre under BUDI diesel — verified by MyKad and drawing on the same monthly BUDI quota as BUDI95 — while approved logistics and public-transport fleets pay RM2.15 under the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS). Everyone else pays the floating market price.
RON97 is unsubsidised and has floated with the market since 2010.
