Car Buyer's Guide

Overview

The U25 MINI Countryman is a five-seat C-segment SUV, launched in 2024, with petrol and electric powertrains and all-wheel drive across the range. It suits buyers who want MINI’s largest SUV and need five seats, with the choice between an EV motor or 2.0-litre petrol power. Prices start from RM258,888.

Countryman in 2026 — what's new

For 2026, the Countryman EV receives a silicon carbide inverter and a 65.2 kWh net battery, lifting WLTP range to up to 500 km. The locally assembled Countryman S All4 petrol rises by RM2,000 to RM261,000, while the other models carry on unchanged. MINI also adds the Countryman S Fiery Stallion Edition, limited to 18 units and carrying Chinese New Year design cues.

Which variant to buy

Most buyers with dependable home or workplace charging should start with the RM258,888 S Electric: it is the lowest-priced Countryman and has 313 hp, AWD and 432 km of listed range. The RM260,888 S All4 is for buyers who need petrol refuelling convenience; the RM2,000 gap buys a 201 hp 1,998 cc petrol drivetrain rather than the EV motor. Pay RM129,000 more for the RM389,888 JCW only if its 296 hp output and wet dual-clutch automatic matter to you.

Verdict

The Countryman gives buyers an unusually direct petrol-versus-electric choice, with the S Electric and S All4 separated by only RM2,000 in listed pricing. The locally assembled petrol S is RM90,000 cheaper than the earlier CBU version, though it loses the 48-volt mild-hybrid system that normally adds 20 PS. For EV buyers, it costs more than the BMW iX1, BMW iX1 L and Volvo EC40 listed here, so the MINI badge and Countryman format carry a clear premium.
