Which variant to buy

Start with the Alza X if you want the core package: every variant has the same 105 hp 1.5-litre petrol engine, CVT, front-wheel drive and seven-seat layout. The H costs RM68,000 and the AV RM75,500, but the mechanical specification does not change. On paper, you are paying for trim rather than extra power or seats, so check the equipment list closely before spending the RM5,500 step to H or RM13,000 step to AV.

Verdict

The Alza gets the fundamentals right for an affordable family MPV: space, practicality and safety are its strongest points. It is not perfect, with its weaker areas lying in finer details, but the seven-seat layout and straightforward powertrain suit its brief. At RM62,500 to RM75,500, it also costs substantially less than the Toyota Veloz from RM95,000 and Mitsubishi Xpander from RM99,980.
