ASEAN NCAP has released crash test results for the new Proton Compact Car. The Proton PCC was rated five stars (14.07 out of 16 marks) in ASEAN NCAP’s Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) test, and four stars (82%) in the Child Occupant Protection (COP) test. The variant tested had Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and dual airbags, while the top-spec Malaysian variant of the PCC is expected to have six airbags.
According to ASEAN NCAP, Proton has set a new trend in producing safer cars, and this is the second time for Proton to achieve a five-star AOP rating after the Prevé and Suprima S. In addition to that, stability control has been made standard fitment on all variants and this offering is aligned with ASEAN NCAP’s objective to make the system more affordable to consumers.
ASEAN NCAP Chairman Professor Wong Shaw Voon said, “I congratulate Proton for this achievement and hopefully this will set a trend among all manufacturers to produce a “global platform” of five-star cars in the region, and safety will not simply be compromised especially for the entry level cars.”
