As far as milestones go, this is a big one. At Skoda Auto’s Kvasiny plant in the Czech Republic, the company’s 20 millionth vehicle rolled off the production line yesterday. The milestone vehicle was a Skoda Karoq, the company’s junior SUV that was unveiled in May. Deliveries will begin at the end of October in Europe.
Skoda is one of the longest-established vehicle manufacturers in the world. As early as 1905, the company started car production in Mladá Boleslav with the Voiturette A that had been developed by the company founders Laurin and Klement. Since then, Skoda has produced 20 million vehicles at its Czech and international plants. It became part of the Volkswagen Group in 1991.
“Producing 20 million cars is a tremendous milestone in our company’s history. We are aiming for another production and sales record this year. The basis for this is our Strategy 2025, which will sustainably prepare Skoda for the processes of change in society and the automotive industry,” said Skoda CEO Bernhard Maier.
The 2025 Strategy will see Skoda press ahead with the electrification of its model range and offer five fully electric models in various segments by 2025. With the Skoda Vision E (pic above), VW’s Czech brand presented its vision of electric and autonomous driving at the recently concluded IAA show in Frankfurt.
Skoda today is a high-volume brand that offers seven model ranges and more than 40 model variants, all rolling out from 15 sites in eight countries.
In recent years, the Czech car manufacturer has further expanded its production capacity. In 2014, Skoda produced more than one million vehicles in a calendar year for the first time. It was just in December 2016 that Skoda’s 19 millionth vehicle rolled off the production line at in Mladá Boleslav, which shows the pace of growth at the brand. With two fresh models in the Kodiaq and Karoq, Skoda is well equipped to ride the current SUV wave.

We need to learn from Skoda how to be a successful company. Once upon a time Skoda was the laughing joke of Europe. Today, it is a highly respected brand.

John. What is wrong with you? Skoda was an almost bankrupt company when VW took over cause nobody wanted them. Only after VW introduced their know how and technology, Skoda became profitable and is now one of the most respected mass manufacturers in Europe.
Profitable? Thats according to VW group fortunes.
Respectable? Nobody respects a CKD manufacturer.
Ask any Czech who lived long enuff to remember when independent Skoda had real respect and had some vehicles that even them sausage pipu continued to use after conquering.
What Skoda is now, a glorified CKD assembler that has no soul.
