The next-generation Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been spotted again, this time with the AMG version being sighted on public roads. In top performance guise, the AMG model is expected to boast the same 4.0 litre biturbo petrol V8 from current AMG models, and the engine is also expected to continue in a lower tune as it has before in the G 500 and the G500 4×4².
Here in its full-fat AMG guise though, it is expected to produce in excess of the Mercedes-AMG 63 GLC’s 510 hp and 700 Nm of torque. To recap, the new-generation Gelandewagen stands to benefit from an estimated 400 kg weight reduction from its current iteration thanks to revised construction and lighter materials, while boasting an approximate 10 cm growth in overall width for a broader, more spacious cabin.
Though still considerably disguised, the AMG version here can be distinguished by its deeper front and rear bumpers as well as wider wheel arches, along with its side-exit exhaust pipes. Inside, the interior will receive an extensive reworking for the all-new generation, with the latest in Mercedes-Benz technology to feature inside, including select items from the latest E-Class.
The new model will be manufactured at the Magna facility in Graz, Austria, where the current model has been produced. Traditionalists who want a new run of the current G-Class are likely to be able to get their hands on one, because the current model has been tipped to remain in production, albeit in simplfied form, alongside the new one when it comes to market.
