Under the Budi Madani programme, which includes both Budi Madani RON 95 (Budi95) and Budi Madani Diesel (Budi Diesel), eligible Malaysians are allowed to purchase up to 200 litres of subsidised RON 95 petrol and B10 or higher blends of diesel per month.
If you recall, the quota for Budi95 was originally set at 300 litres per month in September last year before it was temporarily reduced to 200 litres in March 2026. This was in response to the West Asia conflict that saw crude oil prices soar, leaving the government to foot a sizeable subsidy bill.
Recently, the ministry of finance (MoF) announced that Budi Diesel has been revised so Malaysians will get to enjoy diesel at a subsidised price of RM2.10 per litre nationwide – you can find out all about it here. The mechanics of purchasing subsidised diesel is the same as that of subsidised RON 95 petrol, but each fuel type doesn’t come with its own quota.
Instead, the 200 litres per month allocation is for both fuel types, which may have some questioning why the government isn’t increasing the quota, although you can apply for an additional 100 litres. According to the MoF, real-world consumption data showed that nearly 90% of drivers used less than 200 litres of fuel per month, with the average being around 100 litres monthly. This was also the reason given for the reduction in quota to 200 litres.
“This means that the majority of the rakyat, including the B40 and M40 groups, are not affected by the current eligibility limit as their fuel needs can still be fully met through purchases at subsidised prices,” the ministry said in a FAQ accompanying the revised Budi Diesel briefing.
It went on to say that the set quota also serves to prevent subsidies from being abused by irresponsible parties. It pointed out that cross-border syndicates exploited the previous blanket subsidy system by smuggling fuel to neighbouring counties with higher fuel prices than in Malaysia.
Additionally, companies took advantage of subsidised fuels by using them on a large scale to cover operating costs and turn a profit. With the new mechanism, subsidies can be targeted more effectively to eligible Malaysians, ensuring that the right groups benefit from them.

Anwar menang rakyat senang
WTF! Why cant just reduce diesel price lah bodo PH Gomen! Solve the root cause not the symptom.
This means you don’t meet the Budi Diesel terms & conditions to be eligible because you are underaged.
100litre for cars and 50litre for motobodo. Confirm can reduce traffic jams.
1. The growing of EV popularity reducing dependency on petrol.
2. Those with only diesel car ended up not using their Petrol Budi but had to buy unsubsidised price instead.
3. I use a salary as an example. If I earn RM1700 per month, do I use up all of it or manage my spending and save some for emergency? If I’m saving up, does that mean I don’t need RM1700 just because I only spend less than that? Does that mean it was comfortable living by that?
Kpd MOF, data tu jangan pukul rata. Jika kira total skali penduduk luar bandar, suri rumah memang la dpt begitu. Cuba pamerkan data secara komprehensif dengan pecahan yang lebih mendalam seperti penduduk bandar, luar bandar, pecahan negeri, status suri rumah, warga emas dan lain-lain. Saya pasti kesimpulannya akan berbeza.
betul tu…rakyat also will adjust their spending not to exceed 200 liter…even some of them will use more motorbike compare to car.
Many rakyat marhaen are already riding motorbikes. Probably at worse, the fuel consumption of a regular kapchai bike is about 40km/L. So, in order to deplete the 200L BUDI RON95 monthly quota, it is estimated that such a motorbike would have to be ridden to cover around 8000km a month. With the average of 30 days per month, this would mean riding almost 270km per day. Thus, how many out of all the motorbike riders in the country do actually travel that sort of distance daily?
I do for my work I travel 150km one way… total 300km per day and I am using touring bike for convenience and safety it’s use 18 to 19kmL per Litre my 200L is nothing so I have to wife card refill my car then take back to refill the bike… what I earn??? 7k per month it’s not enough I don’t buy big house just standard house single storey monthly payment 2k and car 1.5k I buy car for my baby and family safety and comfort…use Myvi before that car shake like sport car compare to car I am using now…. After all the insurance and what ever fee and food money for family and pempas milk and medical bill for my baby left 200 for saving which I will pay for house…. Now tell me 200L is a joke or not… Malaysia is big not everyone can afford work place near house like in SG and transportation is FK up use bike 1.30hrs car 2.3hrs if I use public transport 4 to 5 hrs because irregular bus timing
Turun lah padang tanya public berapa diaorang guna Ron95, jangan hanya pandai buat teori or guessing game saja. Public pakai bukan hanya untuk pergi kerja saja, Sebulan sekali mesti balik kampung, belum campur pergi bercuti dengan family lagi. Saya pakai ngam2 200 liter sebulan. Bila kita kata kerajaan ni bodoh pandai pulak marah. Bongok punya kerajaan!
Many people WFH and go on hybrid mode ever since this all shinanigans happened, hence consumption now drops drastically for KL Selangor pipu and some other office heavy working states. Sure this 100l model fits currently but definitely won’t be enough when people need to commute heavily again
reduction of quota incoming….
Hei sohai. Time ko bagi kuota 300 liter, data tunjuk 90% tak guna habis. Mmg la tak guna habis pasal rakyat nak berjimat supaya x habis 300 liter dlm sebulan. Nie ko kurangkan 200 liter pun ko guna data yg sama. Ayat yg sama. Pasal reason tak guna abis pun bende yg sama. Pasal dieorg kene jimat supaya tak abis 200 liter dlm masa sebulan. Jgn jadi bebal boss
agree. time to remove all subsidies.
For every new car or recond car on the road, the my govt has already collected almost 100% of taxes . Giving subsidy is just a very small tip of an iceberg. Those motorcyclists should not be entitled to 200L as cars owners because motorcyclists pay so little taxes and that particular mode of transport itself does not require excess fuel subsidy. In short, those with motorcycle license should not be given 200 L of subsidy. These subsidy should be freed up and re-allocated to car owners who need more due to frequent travelling.
Mana dia cedok data tu? Dia ambil data perlis shj ke.
Rata2 lembah klang ni tanya yg dkt opis semua rata2 kena sapu bini punya quota sekali. Jadi mana data 90% kata x habis tu?
X takut masuk neraka lama2 ke banyak benar nipunya ni? Sigh…
Budi 200L oso not enough for one month. WTH statement 100L is enough? Loads of crap punya statement.
I don’t understand the math. If people don’t consume then what subsidy are you giving, so then where your saving come from? If I don’t spend that much, you also never subsidized me that much, but now you said you have saving after cutting the quota which is not relevant.
Don’t keep fooling us with a wrong fact.
