Seputeh MP Teresa Kok has in a Facebook post yesterday urged Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to study increasing congestion in Bukit Jalil, Sri Petaling and Old Klang Road.
“I welcome the statement of KL mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud during a townhall session with Bangsar residents on August 24. The move by DBKL to conduct a six-month study to assess the capacity of existing roads, infrastructure and utilities to accommodate rapid development in Bangsar is a very appropriate action.
“The increasingly critical traffic congestion problem in Bukit Jalil and Sri Petaling is caused by the lack of adequate public transport access, especially the LRT/MRT station network in new focus areas. Although the existing road network cannot be expanded any further, DBKL is still seen to be approving high-density development projects in the area,” she said.
Kok also requested the federal government and DBKL to conduct a feasibility study on the proposed 17,000-unit Bandar Madani project in Bukit Jalil, which she said “has sparked deep concerns and anxiety among local residents”.
Anyone who’s ever had the (mis) fortune of being on Old Klang Road during peak times will know how bad the jams are there, exacerbated by the controversial are-they-in-use-or-are-they-not bus lanes, illegally-parked vehicles and the many traffic light junctions. There are often bottlenecks where the thoroughfare is reduced to just one or two lanes.
“According to statistics, the total traffic flow on Old Klang Road during the 2026 Chinese New Year celebrations reached 200,000 vehicles per day, making it one of the busiest and densest routes in all of Kuala Lumpur.
“To overcome this issue, I urge DBKL to collaborate with the public works department (JKR) to study the need for the construction of an additional double-decker road or flyover to relieve congestion along Old Klang Road,” said the Seputeh MP.
“Overall, I urge the government and DBKL to present a comprehensive plan to upgrade existing infrastructure first before approving any new development projects in the future. Development should not sacrifice the quality of life of the people,” she added. What do you think? Would a double-decker road or flyover work?

Double decker roads wont work. It will just move the jam to another area. Bottlenecks everywhere. The only solution is to reduce reliance on cars for mobility.
Example of an old school auntie as a politician. Should suggest public transport like BRT or LRT rather than more roads. Suggest la to extend the Monorail from KL Sentral all the way to Bukit Jalil as per the previous plan that she last opposed.
We’re still struck with traffic jams
Kids 37 years ago knows more about town planning than DBKL today.
old klang road connects KL to PJ and always congested yet it was ignored for decades. just goes to show how lazy and useless the public servants are.
i had expected less, but 3 former PMs managed to be charged in court on the same day, a new low for Msia, imagine all that haram duit being actually used for the Rakyat. oh oh air keruh since 1937 and stesen bas bumbung atap is still ok, sederhana agaknya.
Please study also
Jalan Kuala Selangor & LDP interchange at DUKE, Bandar Sri Damansara Area.
Is a nightmare bottleneck..
Please use public transport or motorcycle. If everyone use car everyday, sure jam kaw2 everywhere..
Building more roads will not solve the problem. Push more on public transport. But pretty sure all the tycoons will lobby gomen to not do it…
The stretch from Jalan Templer to OKR is a nightmare, and now with the upcoming condos still under construction (in front of Taman Sentosa junction, who knows what the situation will look like once completed and don’t get me started on the bus lanes. For those complaining on vehicles not abiding on the bus lanes, please do drive and experience for once. May I suggest to sync the traffic light system as well? For eg, those using OUG to Bukit Jalil, sync those traffic light together.
In late 1980s, Singapore Government had proposed an even better idea than what Teresa is mooting to elevate traffic and congestions on their highways (mind you their traffic jams weren’t even as bad as they are today) .
Let me be clear here… the incoherences of construction project approvals is an obvious issue that’s sensitive and let’s keep that aside yea.
Now how about having these developers (all of them all over this country) provide a traffic addition mitigation (I’ll call this the TAM) whereby let’s say it’s a new apartment project with expected 300 units and about 350 car parks allocations. The TAM would need to have a study where a constant of 400 cars are joining the regular daily traffic snarl and how will that affect the overall traffic jam currently. The TAM mitigation plan should not be adding additional “traffic jam seconds” to that old jam, and developer has to provide a solution whereby the new traffic flow from their project of “X” numbers of cars per minute or hour will not further aggravate more cars braking and hinder the already slow crawl. The TAM will only work if careful study and proper experts input and correctly calculated that it should either lighten the speed and flow or even smoothen the traffic flow … then only DBKL can start to process the other approval processes for that project.
Savvy? Or perhaps not and we continue to put kerosene into the problem more….
Malaysia…jika negara lain mereka kaji pengangkutan awam perlu tambah atau tak…. sebab sini boleh jual jalan dgn tol
Improve public transport, bukan besarkan jalan.. ngong..
Improve public transport, bukan besarkan jalan.. ngong .
Yr 2000, there was a 2015 kl plan to extend monorail down okr. Why didn’t she bring that up?
who was the minister in year 2000 ?
Note:
In all the town planning had no clue at all. Without long term strategy from start.
Those sitting on the position are unprofessional in terms of quality and experience nor productivity.
The management in all from top to bottom across the board are day dreaming and easy advantages from the taxpayers funded.
Because the town planning systems are corrupted and rotten roots totally
Seeded.
For the last few decades until this days still fall into a slump stage.
In doubt there should remove the hold bunch of useless once for all nor hesitation in stern action speak louder.
Just feel too sorry we as a Malaysian are shameful in this modern society.
Wake up
DBKL operates under the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), which is currently held by Hannah Yeoh, her good buddy.
This feller talk kok only good la. DBKL is fully under their control but they try to taichi the blame and act like DBKL only is fully to be blame alone. Of course DBKL is useless, but menteri is useless also.
ask chinaman come do multi deck road, they are the most experienced in the whole world now doing this infra. but projects of such scale will surely involve crony companies, no choice, rakyat can choose between jam daily or let crony eat your money
Too many condos built, traffic light not smooth, from the stretch of Sri Manja toll to Midvalley, try and count how many traffic lights. Been staying in this area all my life, now I walk out from my house all I see is condo from left to right, front and behind . Pantang nampak tanah kosong, lepastu bina condo. Majority of the condos also belong to that developer company. Cuba check
The easiest way to reduce congestion is to tow cars which are illegally parked at the row of shop lots just before millerz square and also Scott Garden. A few days back, there was an Alphard parked near millerz square occupying 1 1/2 lanes. It was early in the morning, about 6:15 am so I assume the ahole driver must have parked it midnight and never moved it. Enforcement is so weak.
DBKL normally will solve traffic congestion after about 20 years from my experience living in KL.
Monorail is under federal gomen. Prasarana. But looking at the highly. Paid management, I doubt if they even use public transport.

Putra lrt can branch out at Abdullah hukum to okr as well as the monorail Company I think has gone bust or on life support.
Double deck road, shool lobby could be introduced to School zones such as Jalan Hang Jebat.
There are 5 primary and secondary schools located directly on or immediately adjacent to Jalan Hang Jebat, Kuala Lumpur, putting them well within a 300-meter radius.

No need to study one. You all very greedy for development, specially apartments and that’s caused the issue. Stop such development and issue will be solved
Teresa which highway construction type c giving you potential friendships
OKR is not for human to live. it is like a ghetto where humans are housed in high-rise buildings.
