After weeks of teasing, Mitsubishi has now confirmed that it will officially unveil the fifth-generation Pajero next week on September 2, 2026.
In the lead up to the all-new Pajero’s debut, its maker has been dropping small tidbits of information about the off-road SUV. To start, it will be closely associated to the Triton pick-up truck and use a pure ladder-frame construction, albeit modified to suit the Pajero clientele that wants the best of both worlds: off-road capability and on-road comfort.
To handle rough terrain, the “cross-country SUV,” as it is referred to by Mitsubishi, will be equipped with the company’s Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) technology and is expected to come with turbodiesel power. The Triton’s 2.4 litre mill is likely to be offered, with reports also hinting at hybrid powertrains.
However, hybrid power could be reserved for other iterations of the Pajero, which will reportedly become a family of models. In the past, the Pajero name has been used for mechanically unrelated models like the Pajero Mini and iO, which are aimed at different customer sets and differ heavily from the main character SUV.
In addition to a ladder-frame construction and S-AWC, the Pajero proper will come with the Multi Meter, a modern take on the triple gauge pod that sat on the dashboard of older Pajeros featuring digital screens. We’ll get the full picture in just a few days’ time, so stay tuned.
