Perodua’s first electric vehicle, which is also Malaysia’s first homegrown EV, will be made an ‘important national agenda’ in line with the government’s efforts to strengthen governance, social responsibility and protection of the environment, said prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said that the EV’s official launch date will be finalised in one to two days, with a suggestion that it will be held at the end of this month.
“I will instruct the cabinet that the launch of Perodua’s new EV is made to be a big national agenda. It’s not just a product launch, but it combines governance, social responsibility dan environmental protection,” Anwar said when visiting Perodua’s plant in Sg Choh today, reported by Astro Awani.
He added that the EV – which is set to be called the QV-E – benefits the rakyat and the country, and fulfils the Malaysia Madani concept that is the core of his administration. “In a short time, perhaps in two weeks time, I will be back to make this Perodua launch an important national programme, I assure you now,” PMX said.
Anwar also thanked all parties that were involved in making the national EV project a success, calling it a move forward in the transformation of Malaysia’s automotive industry. He also committed to be P2’s ‘marketing officer’ in his upcoming official trip to South Africa, Kenya and Ethiopia, on a pro bono basis without payment.
We recently reported that Perodua is attempting to penetrate African markets, starting with used cars. The company is also exporting pre-owned cars to Bangladesh and the Bezza to Papua New Guinea, where the compact sedan is used as a police car.
Here’s everything we know so far about the Perodua QV-E EV, which is a very different product from the Proton eMas 5 that was launched last month.

Proton Emas5 and Perodua QV-E Electric are both Malaysian milestone for celebrate.
emas5 is a rebadge car, although nothing wrong with rebadge as even Fam rebadge foreign fotball player squad and won against vietnam 4-0.
Well we have our best performing local car maker moving into new model development from ground up while integrating matured technology provider parts. it will still be a great challenge for perodua to return profit and sustain the volume expectation. if it remain relying on local market. if i am right on this assumption then any new car development model must accept that local market alone cannot sustain such activity. need to have larger market exposure to achieve meaningful development risk. good luck perodua.
Ties to Daihatsu could mean global sales in the form of Daihatsu, Suzuki & Toyota versions which can help with quicker recovery of investment & production costs.
e.Mas 5 already with 10k booking. Perodua is still going to launch……….
Perodua, the true Malaysian car
Looks like eMas5, new saga had puts perodua in big trouble. If in the end the car cannot run, just fit in myvi engine launch as new suv model. I’ll buy to support.
Is this really affordable like Axia?
The “Battery Leasing” will be the failure point. The logic of “assurance of guaranteed worry free from battery issues” sounds good on paper until people realized that they longer they keep the car (Not running it, just to own a functioning car), the more they need to keep invest into it in the form of fixed monthly battery leasing fees, and it will never end. Only customers that use this as delivery/taxi will buy in into this ownership model and this is niche rather than majority.
Can fight with Jaecoo J5 EV or not ? In Thai or Indon, it’s only selling RM75k.
